Madrona Redhawk for Elle Canada
This is a profile I wrote and shot with Madrona Redhawk in Brooklyn NYC and Time Square. Madrona Redhawk is a Las Vegas-based artist renowned for her avant-garde make-up artistry and performance pieces. Drawing inspiration from her Native American heritage, particularly the Shawnee tribe's elaborate face paint traditions, she employs unconventional tools—such as telephones, hats, and cakes—to apply make-up, transforming everyday objects into artistic instruments. Beyond make-up, Redhawk creates detailed cityscape drawings and constructs papier-mâché cities from recycled materials. She aspires to stage interactive public performance art shows, inviting audience participation to co-create improvisational paint videos.
Fun fact: the red ensemble shoot is two years late in Times Square. I plan to shoot Madrona every time I go back to NYC. After 10 sessions, I want to publish a book called Being Madrona.
